My main problem with mission statements is knowing what the mission is.
Of mission statements I’ve read/heard Google’s is probably my favourite, “Google’s mission is to organise the world’s and make it universally accessible and useful.” Pretty ambitious.
I can’t come up with a statement as succinct or definitive as that but I think my first post should be an outline of things I want to do and of things that I don’t want to do.
- I want to write this blog to improve as a writer.
- I want to write this blog to express opinions because I think I have something to say.
- I want to write this blog about whatever is taking my interest at the time.
- I do not want to write this blog about myself; I do not want it to be a journal or a diary of my day to day life.
- I want to achieve a loyal bunch of readers that are disappointed if I do not post.
- I want to write excellent prose and have a strong collection of opinion writing.
[...] I don’t think that I can both write this blog and cut myself out of it entirely. I don’t think that I have an area that I feel ‘qualified’ enough to write about [...]
